PSHE

Intent

At Laughton J&I, we believe that the nurturing and development of the whole child is very important and that PSHE plays a key role in this. PSHE enables pupils to develop the knowledge and understanding, skills, attitudes and values which are necessary for them to make sense of the responsibilities, opportunities and experiences which are part of their lives, both now and in the future. It does this by promoting the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of all pupils. All staff at Laughton J&I promote our core values – Respect, Reflect and Resilience and these are embedded within our curriculum.

Implementation

PSHE is taught both through a cross-curricular approach and within discreet timetabled lessons. In many lessons, whole class discussion and a responsive practice to incidents that arise enables skills, attitudes and behaviour to be developed. Teachers will also provide activities and opportunities to reflect on, process and evaluate learning. This is achieved using schemes of work such as ‘Rotherham Healthy Schools’ scheme

Impact

The PSHE curriculum will provide children with opportunity to reflect and learn about spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development. Children will enjoy taking part in lessons that provide engaging opportunities and challenges to allow at least good progress to be made by all.
